Catch Up With NEFF Rider Torstein Horgmo

At the ripe age of 23, Torstein Horgmo has already been around the block more than a few times. Bursting onto the scene barely 4 years ago, he’s quickly risen to the highest levels of pro riding, with countless big-time podiums, film parts for Standard, memorable covershots and essentially taken over as the public face for many of his sponsors. Hell–just his epic park run in “Aesthetica” alone blew people’s minds. The best thing about the young Norwegian however, isn’t his list of accomplishments or his unparalleled versatility–what sets him apart is that the fire is still burning. He’s outspoken about the industry and current scene, an almost masochistic personal critic to his work, and has long been widely considered to be one of the hardest-working snowboarders on the planet. He’s even leading the way on the digital level this season, with the launch of www.torstein.net.
We caught up with Torstein during the film shoots for the new TransWorld 20 Tricks production. After riding Northstar with him for a few days, it’s hard not to have a great time on the hill with the kid. He truly loves to ride–regardless of terrain or conditions–and the energy he’ll put into every last detail is pretty damned inspiring.
After a year spent traveling the world on the contest circuit and filming what figures to be one of the best all-around videos parts of the upcoming movie season, he stops to looks back on it all. All I did was press record.

Kid’s got one filthy back tail, to say the least.

Euros are the only true hipsters. Sorry, Portland.

Probably the 7th or 8th of these that were done perfectly. But just not perfect enough…

NEFF Rider Ryan Decenzo Interview

A few years ago I used to work at The Plaza in Vancouver. I had to work early on Saturday mornings and I remember you and your brother would sometimes be the first two people there. Do you guys still get up early and go skating?
Yeah, we usually always get up early on the weekends because that’s when the good street skating goes down, there’s more spots that are less of a bust and we just try and get some shit done. Get a whole day of skating in you know!

Back then I remember days where you guys started the day at The Plaza, then would go street skating and filming all day and then end off skating North Delta park at night. What was it that motivated you to skate so much?
I don’t know man, I just loved skating and couldn’t get enough. I loved learning new tricks and taking em to the streets and then going back to the park or whatever and trying to learn more new shit! Just spending all day on my board, cuz that’s how you get good.

NEFF Rider Tim Humphreys Wins West Coast Invitational

Humphreys

Tim with his 1st place prize!

The Winners..

At the end of the day, it was Tim Humphreys who took the top honors. Tim disclosed to me after the fact that he hadn’t even intended to ride in the contest but a last minute entry seems to have worked out for him. Humphreys killed it, and he most definitely deserved the win. Nice work buddy..
